Board member proposes 'Iloilo Province LGBT Pride Day'

FIFTH District Board Member Carol-V S. Espinosa-Diaz has proposed an ordinance declaring the first day of June every year as the "Iloilo Province LGBT Pride Day."Espinosa cited that in June 2017, the United Nations through the United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution to appoint an "independent expert" to find the causes of violence and discrimination against people due to their gender identity.

"LGBT Pride Day is the positive stance against discrimination and violence towards LGBT people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity and equal rights; increase their visibility as a social group; build community; and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance," Espinosa said.
