Bicam okays VAT on nonresident digital service providers

A BICAMERAL conference committee has approved Congress' final version of the measure imposing a value-added tax on nonresident digital service providers.Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda, chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, on Thursday announced the approval of the joint version.Earlier on Thursday, lawmakers from the House and the Senate met to reconcile differing provisions of their versions of the measure.'The bicam quickly agreed on two remaining items.

Second District Rep. Joey SalcedaSalceda, who in 2020 filed a version of the measure, said that protection for small businesses like the barangay microbusiness enterprise law and the Ease of Paying Taxes as to risk-based audits would still apply.'What the DoF proposal simply does is instead of paying their percentage taxes at the end of the year, the taxes will be withheld by the e-commerce site,' Salceda said.
