House Bill No. 38 mandates the National Telecommunications Commission to require all ISPs and Public Telecommunications Entities to provide a minimum of 10 Mbps download speed for all broadband access whether mobile, fixed, or fixed wireless. This would entail ISPs and PTEs to modify or improve telecommunication lines or expand infrastructure to serve their subscribers.
The congressman also noted that compared to its neighbors in Asia, where some of the fastest internet speeds are found, the Philippines still lags “way behind.” “Some reports even peg our country’s internet download speed at 2.5 Mbps, making us the country with the slowest internet connection in the ASEAN,” he added.Biazon´s bill is one of several measures he filed to the Committee on Information and Communications Technology to increase internet speed in the country. A technical working group , chaired by Biazon, was formed by the committee and has already done two meetings to consolidate the issues.
With the present telco's (dual monopoly) it's achievability remains in the drawing board. Speed averagely turtle-pacee.
10 Megabytes = 80 Megabits
What!?30 mbps should be the minimum speed!
Pag naging batas yan, for sure, taglagang hanggang 10 MBps lang mapapala natin, kasi yun naman ang minimum eh. So hanggang dun lang ang ibibigay ng mga ISP sa Pinas. Knowing Pinoy businesses... hayayayay!
10MBps? Di pa man din batas, laos na agad
Maria, fast na bang 10mbps?
Sa laki ng demand for speed versus the infra na meron, baka yung 10mbps ay parang 3-5 mpbs (guised na 10) ng mga providers. Baka lang nman. Samahan pa they care (sa payment) or at home (literally, kaya 48 years bago sumagot). 😀😇😀
OA naman yung 10 megabytes per second. LOL. Baka 10 megabits per second po. 😜
My PLDTHome Internet WiFi subscription if for 10Mbps but I get only 5Mbps on best days which are seldom. It's like paying for a scam! Where else can I go? PH population needs at least five providers to increase IT penetration and move PH to current standards.
MegaBITS.
Ok lang sana kung ganitong speed, but sana di naman itaas ang presyo. Kung magkaganon, baka hindi na maging affordable. Kung ang ordinary tao ay kaya lang ang presyo ng 5mbps.
They have to legislate this?
Mbps ... Mega Bits Per Second. Not mega bytes. For speed, you use BITS per sec... for size of data, you use bytes ... like storage .. 1 tera byte.
Still too low. It must be twice that if we even hope to compete.
Better put Verizon and Comcast in the Philippines for some serious murrican competition! Murrica First!
