The Bureau of Immigration intercepted a Chinese man after he presented a fake Mauritian passport and identification card upon arrival in Manila on May 17. The 32-year-old foreigner attempted to clear the immigration counter at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 after arriving from Bangkok, Thailand. But immigration officers noticed that on his previous trip to the Philippines, he used a Chinese passport.
“He revealed during interrogation that he acquired the fraudulent document after allegedly investing US$200,000, but admits to having never traveled to Mauritius for the processing,” the BI said. “He instead received the passport and identity card while he was in Thailand.” “A verification done by BI’s forensic documents laboratory revealed that the documents presented were indeed counterfeit,'' the agency added. The Chinese man was deported and is now included in BI’s blacklist.
