Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the decision to allow the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) to return to Hong Kong and Macau is up to the Department of Health (DOH).

“Hintayin po natin ang abiso ni Secretary Duque ng Health kung kelan pwede ” Bello said in an interview with DZMM on Thursday.

“Syempre siya ang may kapasidad, siya ang may kaalaman diyan…yung tungkol sa situation doon kung lalala ba yung sitwasyon ng coronavirus o kung hindi na lalala.” he added. Bello said they are closely coordinating with DOH on the matter of when to allow the OFW’s to travel back to Hong Kong and Macau. Pinoy workers who were affected with the travel ban due to the 2019 novel corona virue or 2019 nCoV ARD outbreak were provided with P10, 000 financial assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration .

Around 300 OFWs, mostly bound for Hong Kong and Macau, were stranded in the airports on Monday following the travel ban imposed by President Duterte over the weekend.
