Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Charles Brown called on the faithful on Easter Sunday to shun falsehoods and be “apostles” of truth.

APOSTOLIC Nuncio to the Philippines Charles Brown called on the faithful on Easter Sunday to shun falsehoods and be “apostles” of truth.

At mass he celebrated to mark the 53rd Anniversary of Church-run Radio Veritas, the prelate stressed the importance of being wary against such misinformation, especially if it is perpetrated by influential people for their own gain. “What did Pilate say to Jesus at that moment. Pilate, with great cynicism and with great disrespect for Jesus, says in an offhand way, what is truth? So Jesus brings the truth and Pilate is unable to recognize the truth,” Brown said.

“Because Pilate is a man of power. A man who dominates others. A man who thinks what he says becomes true because he has said it. And that is not the case. Truth is independent from what we say,” he added. The papal envoy urged the faithful to become apostles of truth and stop the proliferation of such “fake news.”

“Christ wants us as Catholics to love the truth. To resist falsehoods and such manipulation and distortion [of truth],” Brown said. .
