MANILA—The province of Batangas is set to be placed on "community quarantine" starting Sunday, March 15, after at least 2 patients from Batangas City tested positive for COVID-19, the provincial government said Saturday night.
The Southern Luzon province will be under "community quarantine" until April 14, 2020, Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas said in an executive order.Under Batangas' "quarantine advisory," classes and school activities in public and private schools, and universities will be suspended until next month. The Philippine National Police and local officials "shall be responsible for implementing measures to ensure that students remain in their homes during the class suspension," the document read.Unlike a similar quarantine in Metro Manila, land and sea travel in Batangas will not be suspended to "serve passengers going to and from neighboring provinces for work.
Passengers traveling by sea must be cleared by medical officials stationed in ports before being allowed to board on sea vessels.Public utility vehicles are required to limit passenger capacity in the following manner: "Transport of basic and lifeline commodities such as, but not limited to, food, medicines, medical supplies, gas, fuel, and the like, shall not be hampered," it said.
