The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) has urged the public to do their part to not fall prey to the rising financial cyber crimes.

"An important reminder: You will never be a victim of cyber crime if you would never give your personal information, such as one-time password, to other people," BAP president Jose Arnulfo Veloso said in a statement on Sunday.

His statement came after BDO Unibank faced an uproar online from several account holders who were victims of unauthorized online bank transfers.READ: BDO vows to reimburse fraud victims, strengthen security controls

The banking community should not blame the victims of cyberfraud as financial institutions have the responsibility to protect their clients from potential risks, Raymund Liboro, the head of the NPC, said.

the BAP should urged themselves to secure their systems some more instead.

BAP: My close friend is one of the victims, and I take offense to your insinuation she was careless in anyway or form, resulting to loss of her hard-earned money. BDO should admit their digital banking protocols are lacking and apologize, not shift accountability.

Don’t pass your job to us.

Reminders and bank advisories to the public are not enough, banks should have strong and updated cybersecurity measures to safeguard the hard earned money of their clients. Stop blaming the clients and take responsibility.
