Ban on China may be too much, says health expert coronavirus

Watch more in iWant or TFC.tv MANILA - A public health expert on Saturday said imposing a travel ban on China "might be too much" amid the outbreak of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus .

"I don't think right now that is necessary. I think tama lang muna 'yang Hubei province. Pero later on, if dumami , then I think we should not hesitate. We can change our minds about it," said Dr. Susan Mercado in an interview on DZMM radio. Malacañang on Friday announced a ban on travelers from Hubei province, epicenter of the virus outbreak. The illness, which originated from its capital Wuhan, has killed more than 200 people and infected over 11,000.

Mercado explained that banning the whole of China might be too much. She said it was only in Hubei province where there was an extensive community transmission of the virus. The Chinese city as well as other parts of Hubei have been on lockdown since last week in a bid to contain the virus. The Philippines on Thursday confirmed its first case of the new virus, a 38-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan who came to the country on Jan. 21. She is currently asymptomatic but remains confined in an undisclosed government hospital in Metro Manila. The World Health Organization has declared a global emergency amid the rapid spread of the virus.

ban niyo mukha niyo OUSTLENI2020

Baka po, political expert po ung nagsabi.kc ung virus pag kaka alam k walang pinipili.

Too much?

PERA PERA LANG YAN, KAYA TINGNAN NIYO BANSA NATIN KAWAWA WALANG PERA, PRESIDENTE NATIN NAMAMALIMOS NG TULONG FROM OTHER NATION..ULOL

Let me ask you this? Does philippine health authority has high powerful equipment to use to cure that fucking virus? I doubt it, look at the quarantine in manila, neng ano tambayan na tent?

OUSTLENI2020

Intayin daw muna na dumami ang infected.😥😏

Imagine if we had virus then the world contained or quarantine whole country.

is banning the greater chance of coronarvirus infecting Filipinos too much for our government too... with their actions... its not remote that there would be panic in the streets and undue hate to Chinese..

OUSTLENI bawalboba

Tang ina mga to? You’re putting at risk your citizens stupid

Lets hope we won't have mortalities because of nCoV. It will be on the government and advisers from DOH.

Colony of China!!!

So 11,000 infected and 200 dead isn't enough justification? 🤦‍♂️

SusanMercado this statement I don’t think you’re a health expert, you’re purely covering government failure

SHADDAP

Not china, those who have been to china

Remember at what stage we are now DOH!

The ban is temporary. They will be allowed when things are ok. It is better to err on the side of caution. It is better to be safe than sorry.

It is not too much! What's too much is accepting people who've been from China when our health services here in this 3rd World Country is not top-notch. Think of the processes that take days/weeks. We can't even be secured with protecting ourselves 'cuz we're in crisis too

oh pleeeeeeeaasssee.... mercado is NEITHER, an internal med, pulmonologist, infectious med, virologist.. she's NOT an expert in this.. !!!! NO to FAKE NEWS.. !!

The ban is not nearly enough!

He may be right but lets put him in airport welcoming chinese tourists.

ousduterte

Too much your face! Asan ang utak nyo nasa pwet! Wake up! 😤

US bans anyone coming from China. We should do that too. Meron silang advance na health facilities and centers for disease control, pero gumagawa sila ng action to prevent nCoV from entering their country. Tigdas nga di natin makontrol. Tapos ayaw pa maglabas ng travel ban.

Bwiset

Ban all china traveler going in better safe

Malakas. Malakas ang kapit mga kapwa Noypi.... OustDuterte

too much? too much na pala ang MAS iprioritize ang kalusugan ng mga Pilipino

WRONG

Apaka.... Tsssss..

Potang gobyerno toh puro katawan, walang utak🤯

Too much?
