Should the Commission on Elections (Comelec) be obligated to conduct an automated Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in 2025, the pilot testing in October would ensure the poll body's preparedness for it, its top official said.

Participants cast their vote during the automated Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Mock Elections conducted by the Commission on Elections at Pasong Tamo Elementary School in Quezon City on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023. The BSKE this year will be held on Oct. 30.

For the BSKE in October, Comelec has already approved the pilot testing of the automated system in two barangays in Cavite which are Barangay Zone II Poblacion and Barangay Paliparan III in Dasmariñas City. The third barangay is Barangay Pasong Tamo in the sixth District of Quezon City. "Itong paghahanda na ginagawa po natin talagang preparatory po ito sa kung sakaling automated BSKE ," Garcia stated.

Due to this, two elections will be conducted in 2025: the national and local elections and the BSKE. Garcia has stated that this must be planned carefully since the poll body is aiming to roll out new machines and a new system for the May 2025 polls.
