ASEAN calls for ‘two-state solution’

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations has expressed grave concern over the “escalation of armed conflict” in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Hamas.In raising their position on the situation in the Middle East, the ASEAN on Friday “strongly condemned” the acts of violence that are already leading to death of the civilians, including those from ASEAN states.”

“We strongly condemn the acts of violence which have led to the deaths and injury of civilians, including ASEAN nationals,” it added. The ASEAN likewise demanded the protection of its nationals and the immediate release of all hostages, saying it is prepared to provide emergency assistance to its nationals in accordance with agreed guidelines.

“We urge the international community to support the peace process in order to ensure long lasting peace and stability in the region,” ASEAN diplomats said.
