SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A field unit of the Philippine Army operating in provinces located in Central and Northern Luzon has reported the surrender of 840 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and supporters in the last quarter of 2019.

Major General Lenard T. Agustin, commander of the Seventh Infantry Division based in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, cited the implementation of the ‘Whole of Nation Approach’ to end the local Communist armed conflict as the main reason for the voluntary surrender of these insurgents in their area of responsibilities.

“With more stakeholders putting in efforts to show the people, down to the barangay level, what we have to offer, what benefits await them should they surrender; more of them are taking courage to come back, be with their families, and experience peace,” said Agustin. The surrenderers were assessed for qualification to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program . The E-CLIP provides financial assistance and livelihood trainings for former rebels.
