A couple who conducted a 'caesarian' operation on their pregnant dog are now facing animal cruelty charges.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society on Tuesday announced that it has filed a case against Jonathan and Evangeline Galguerra for animal cruelty and violation of the Philippine Veterinary Medicine Act. Their basis? The wife filmed the husband cut open their pregnant poodle with a kitchen knife and a pair of scissors, and uploaded it on Facebook live."By performing a surgical procedure themselves without being registered veterinary professionals and without using anesthesia, the Respondents not only maltreated and abused an animal by inflicting needless pain and causing its death, they also neglected to provide the animal ... and the puppies they delivered ...
The couple said the dog was dead and that they were trying to save its unborn pups, but netizens who watched the video said the dog was still alive.The event has also spurred netizens to create the successful online petition"Justice for Mama Toy Poodle", which has exceeded its signature goal at 19,493 supporters.
