TACLOBAN City – Typhoon Ambo, which made first landfall in San Policarpio, Eastern Samar Thursday, May 1, left four persons dead, and over 2,000 damaged houses in Eastern Samar province.
Based on the initial report of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office , two fatalities were reported in San Policarpio, identified as Edronico Noromor, 64, and Danilo Ravas, 38. Rolly Maestre, 50 and Gringo Magallanes, 25, were reported to have died from heart attack and hypothermia, respectively, in Oras town.A total of 31,288 families or 99,863 individuals in seven municipalities were affected by the typhoon, excluding those from Jipapad town where the fate of its residents remained unsure because the place is flooded, without electricity and communication.
The municipality of Maslog reported P40-million worth of damage to infrastructure after its gymnasium filled with relief goods collapsed.Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highway-Eastern Samar District Engineering Office announced that the Taft-Paranas road has been opened to traffic as of 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16.
The national road in Barangay Binogawan, San Policarpo going to Arteche has also been rendered passable to all types of vehicles in only one lane due to fallen debris and landslide reported in Arteche town proper.
