The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in Central Visayas who were detected to have the two SARS-CoV-2 mutations of concern have already recovered, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) said on Friday, Feb. 19.

“All the cases in Central Visayas with two mutations of concern E484K as well as the N501Y exhibited only mild symptoms and have been cleared from their quarantine,” said PGC Executive Director Dr. Cynthia Saloma during a media briefing hosted by the DOH.

Saloma said that the two mutations were detected in 31 out of 50 swab samples from Central Visayas which were processed for genome sequencing.
