Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala on Friday announced she will compete in a $25,000 tournament in Platja d'Aro, Spain on May 17.

The 15-year-old Eala is already in the main draw, according to the International Tennis Federation. The Filipino tennis wunderkind is up for a tough task in the upcoming Platja d'Aro joust as previous Grand Slam campaigners Maddison Inglis, Tereza Martincova, Arantxa Rus, and Anna-Lena Friedsam are among those in the initial list of participants.

Eala also revealed she withdrew from her W15 tournaments in Turkey due to the COVID-19 situation there. "Nevertheless, I continue to train on clay. Let's continue to take care of each other by continuing to wear masks," Eala said.in a third-round loss to Switzerland's Simona Waltert in her W60 tournament debut.

As of April 26, Eala sits at her career-high world no. 660 in the Women's Tennis Association rankings. The Rafa Nadal Academy standout remains the third-best female junior tennis player in the world in the ITF rankings.
