Sen. Richard Gordon, chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon and justice committees probing alleged anomalies at the police force, presented a letter signed by Albayalde recommending an award for himself and a one-rank promotion for his subordinates.
Albayalde argued that the recommendation for the promotion was subject to the approval of higher police officials. Albayalde was relieved from duty after an investigation revealed that the policemen pilfered with some 160 kilograms of meth and only presented some 36 kilograms as their seized haul. PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Benjamin Magalong and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Aaron Aquino accused Albayalde of intervening in the case of the Pampanga cops.
