Tropical Depression Agaton is now in the vicinity of Balangiga, Eastern Samar, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday.
These areas can expect moderate to heavy rains within 24 hours while strong winds will prevail within 36 hours. Flash floods and rain-induced landslides are possible in areas susceptible to hazard. Latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council showed that at least 86,515 families, or 136,390 persons, were affected in the regions of Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.
With the heavy rains brought by Agaton, Capiz Governor Nonoy Contreras said that some areas in the province are impassable. [Translation: So we’re trying to ask assistance from the AFP if we can borrow a chopper to deliver relief goods to our people.]
