Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria

“Joma” Sison was hallucinating when he claimed that some military officials are planning to stage a coup d’etat against President Duterte with the looming termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement .Such was the response of Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines , sent to members of the media on Wednesday as he answered the top communist leader’s coup remark.

Sison said last week that some pro-U.S. military officials are “talking about” a coup after the Philippine government officially sent a notice of termination of the VFA to the U.S. government. He said that “quite a number” of the officials planning the ouster plot are “assets” of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency and Central Intelligence Agency who are “loyal to their pocketbooks rather than to the Filipino people.”

AFP Chief Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. earlier dismissed the rumors that some military officials disapprove of Duterte’s decision to scrap the VFA.
