In collaboration with Filipino muralist and illustrator Jappy Agoncillo, the sports brand introduced the City Shop "Manila Hoops" tee collection which drew inspiration from Filipinos' love for basketball and diverse street culture.
The designs of the shirt include references to street food such as isaw, taho, betamax, and kwek-kwek. Landmarks from the City of Manila such as the Roxas Boulevard and the Manila City Hall were also in the designs."Just like how Adidas as a brand is a timeless classic, I also wanted to create a design that will stand the test of time; able to connect with Filipinos regardless of time or generation,” the Filipino artist said in a statement.
The brand said they are continuously looking out for collaborations with Filipino artists such as Agoncillo, and this collection is a way of paying homage to the Filipinos' love for the game of basketball, while also highlighting other parts of our culture. "The City Shop 'Manila Hoops' collection is our way of paying homage to the sport loved by our nation, while also showing off the elements of our street culture that are all uniquely Filipino,” Adidas Philippines' Brand Communications & Sports Marketing Manager JD Cortez said.—Justin Kenneth Carandang/JCB, GMA News
