ABS-CBN ownership should be a 'non-issue' during franchise hearing, according to Rep. Edcel Lagman. ABSCBNfranchise

Watch more in iWant or TFC.tv MANILA - The Lopez family's ownership of ABS-CBN should be a "non-issue" during the congressional hearing on its franchise renewal since its reacquisition in 1986 was backed by legal issuances, a lawmaker said on Wednesday.

"Since the Lopez family is the majority owner of ABS-CBN and is the aggrieved party, it stands to reason that it should be the one to be compensated for the illegal seizure of ABS-CBN during martial law...," he added. The Lopez family did not lose ownership of the facilities when it was seized by the Marcos government, the Presidential Commission on Good Government earlier said.

The joint House Committee hearing is tackling issues that have been linked to the renewal of ABS-CBN's franchise that expired on May 4.
