With the 30th Southeast Asian Games just around the corner, the Philippine boxing team is likewise training its sights on the all-important goal.

The Tokyo Games will take place from July 24-Aug. 9 and the International Olympic Committee has advised all federations about the qualifying events on tap in the first half of 2020. The Philippines will field entries in the first six divisions with middleweight Eumir Marcial, fresh from taking runnerup honors in the world championships in Russia, leading the charge. Flyweight Carlo Paalam, a quarterfinalist, and Fil-British light-heavy John Marvin, are also tops on the Abap’s priority list.

Picson on Monday picked up Marcial and his teammates at the airport and the boxers will take a short breather before the resumption of training for the SEAG. Picson understands the interest in the 23-year-old Marcial but he requested that they allow Marcial to “fulfill his Olympic dream first.”
