A total of 66 people died in drowning incidents and vehicular accidents during the observation of the Holy Week, the Philippine National Police said on Monday.

In 57 drowning incidents this Holy Week, 62 died, the Philippine National Police says on Monday, April 10, 2023.

In a statement, the PNP said the cases of drowning and vehicular accidents were reported in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon. PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. reminded travelers and motorists to take extra precautions by observing traffic rules and speed limits to prevent vehicular accidents."To all parents, please do not leave your children unattended and avoid drinking liquors while swimming to avoid cases of drowning,” he said.

The PNP said the observance of the Holy Week this year was “generally peaceful and orderly,” attributing it to the strict implementation of its nationwide-coordinated police operations Oplan Ligtas Sumvac 2023.
