MANILA, Philippines: The government is preparing to repatriate at least 63 Filipinos from Haiti, which is being racked by gang violence.

The Presidential Communications Office said Sunday the repatriation plan was being drawn up after the Department of Foreign Affairs declared Alert Level 3 for Haiti, which calls for voluntary repatriation for Filipinos. There are 115 Filipinos in the Caribbean nation. The Department of Migrant Workers will lead the repatriation efforts. The PCO said that the government is looking for options for bringing home the affected Filipinos, since there are no flights out of Haiti.

Chartering a flight seems to be the most viable option at this time.'As of date, there is no report of any Filipino affected or injured by the ongoing security crisis,' DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac was quoted by the PCO as saying.
