Six persons were killed while 13 others were injured when a passenger jeepney collided with a wing van in Barangay San Rafael, Castilla town in Sorsogon province on Friday afternoon, Jan. 27.

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay —

Police identified the victims as Karen Jamisola, 45, a resident of Sorsogon City; Maribel Lomerio, 45, a resident of Castilla; Erik Dino, 19, a resident of Sorsogon City; and Heidy Locsin, 58; Amparo Candia, 60, and Janelle, 17, all residents of Castilla. Injured were Merly Abarientos, Antonio Marco, 65; Muhammad Aiman, 35; Arjay Desuyo, 23; Richele Lasay, 45; Nida Habulan, 45; Rose Dame Diesta, 23; John Juris Valle, 20; James Lorence, 15; April Habana, 20; Erica Joy Carillo, 22; Kaye Mae Castro, 20, and Alia Desonia, all residents of Sorsogon province.

Initial investigation disclosed that the driver of the passenger jeepney, Rodolfo Anoevo Licup, 53, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the curved portion of the national highway going to Sorsogon City, and collided with a wing van driven by Marlon de Leon Lorenzo, 51, a resident of Barangay San Vicente, Gapan City, Nueva Ecija, in the opposite direction.

The injured, including the driver of the jeepney, are being treated at the hospital while the driver of the wing van is under the custody of the police.
