BUTUAN CITY – A 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Cotabato City on early Sunday morning, August 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter was plotted 13 kilometers southeast of Cotabato City, Maguindanao province.In its instrumental intensities, Phivolcs said Intensity ll was registered in Alabel and Malungon, Sarangani while Intensity 1 was in Tupi, General Santos City and Koronadal City, South Cotabato and Kiamba, Sarangani.
Phivolcs assured there were no tsunami threats to these areas due to the tremor, but aftershocks are expected. The regional office of Central Mindanao Office of Civil Defense and Cotabato City and Maguindanao disaster risk reduction and management council there also reported no damage or injury. Meanwhile, a 4.3 magnitude tectonic earthquake was also recorded at 1:38 a.m. on the same day and its epicenter was traced 192 kms southeast of Sarangani , with a depth of 91 kms, Phivolcs also said, in latest bulletin. The southern Mindanao OCD and Davao Occidental DRRMC also reported no damage or injury.
