In a statement, the Bureau of Customs-Port of Manila said that Shinerise Trading Service declared the shipment as fishball, a popular street food in the country, amounting to ₱2,542,882 on August 8, 2019.
It was later learned in an inspection that the actual shipped goods were carrots and onions with estimated value of ₱20 million each; broccoli worth around ₱10 million potatoes worth around ₱2.5 million, BOC-POM said. The bureau said that a warrant of seizure and detention was served to the consignee on September 4 over its possible violation of Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
BOC-POM said that Customs has revoked the consignee’s accreditation, adding that Aceveda is under investigation. In the same month, Customs officials have also seized almost ₱700,000-worth of smuggled rice in the Port of Zamboanga, as well as ₱24-million-worth of misdeclared shipped carrots, onions and potatoes at the Manila International Container Port.
