Five people were arrested in western Mindanao and in Metro Manila for violating the nationwide gun ban currently being implemented by the Philippine National Police .

PNP spokesperson Col. Rhoderick Augustus Alba said the five violators were the first to be arrested when checkpoints were set up for the start of the gun ban at midnight on Sunday, Jan. 9. The gun ban will be until June 8. Nabbed were Wendell Datoy, 39; Earon Jay Macara and his 17-year old companion who were all nabbed in Zamboanga Sibugay; Jerwin Gubaton, 39, who was collared in Navotas; and, John Paul Dunlao, who was arrested in Caloocan City.

Alba then reminded licensed gun owners that the privilege to carry firearms outside their homes were already suspended when the gun ban started on Jan 9.
