At least four barangays in Batangas province were affected by the oil spill from the sunken MT Princess Empress in Oriental Mindoro.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Friday, the affected barangays are San Agapito, San Antonio, San Agustin-Kanluran, and San Andres.

A fishing ban was also imposed in Calapan City due to the oil spill while a State of Calamity was declared in 23 coastal barangay areas in the area.Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said they are still verifying if the sunken motor tanker still contains industrial fuel. The MT Princess Empress sank on February 28 off Najuan, Oriental Mindoro while carrying 900,000 liters of industrial fuel, affecting almost a hundred thousand residents in the province.
