A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck waters off Camarines Norte on Friday afternoon, Oct. 22, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology .
Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 64 kilometers northeast of Tinaga Island, Vinzons, Camarines Norte at 1:19 p.m. The earthquake was “weak” at Intensity III in San Vicente and Labo in Camarines Norte, while it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Vinzons, Daet, and Paracale in Camarines Norte.Phivolcs’ instruments also measured the tremor at Intensity II in Mercedes, Camarines Norte and Polillo and Guinayangan, Quezon province, and Intensity I in Daet, Camarines Norte and Iriga City, Camarines Sur.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
