Three suspects were arrested for allegedly collecting money from illegal gambling operators during an operation in General Santos City on Thursday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said Friday.CIDG chief Police Major General Leo Francisco said the suspects were using the names of Philippine National Police officials including its chief, Police General Rommel Marbil, to extort money.“They were in Mindanao region for a very good reason.
“Specifically, they are meeting the illegal gambling operators in that region to collect money in the name of the Chief PNP and the Director of the CIDG,” he added.According to Francisco, the suspects were from Batangas and Pasig City.The suspects were asking around P2.5 million from illegal gambling operators in the area, added Francisco.Due to this, Francisco advised the public not to submit to the demands of individuals engaging in such illegal activities.
