More than 2 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID19 arrived in the country Sunday evening.

MANILA -- COVID-19 vaccinations for the 5 to 11-year-old age group in the Philippines could begin as early as December, National Task Force for COVID-19 chief implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said Sunday.

I believe it will take only a few weeks before the FDA can announce and have it approved,” Galvez said in an interview with state-run PTV.

After a pilot run in Metro Manila, vaccinations for the teenage group nationwide will begin on November 3, with the full-scale rollout on November 5, Galvez said. Galvez said that with the vaccination of minors underway and the continuous arrival of vaccines in the country, the government is targeting to administer 1 million or 1.5 million jabs a day, up from around 700,000 per day currently.

As of October 31, Galvez said over 59 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the Philippines.Galvez said this is over 35 percent of the government’s 77.1 million target population and nearly 25% of the country’s total population.
