Two barangays in Caloocan City were placed under a week-long total lockdown starting Sunday, July 26 over rising coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

The Caloocan City Public Information Office said Barangays 95 and 97 will be under lockdown from 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, July 26 to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 1.

“Napansin natin ang pagdami ng mga kumpirmadong kaso ng Covid19 sa dalawang barangay na ito sa nga nakalipas na ilang araw ,” Caloocan Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan said in a statement on Sunday. “Napagdesisyunan natin na isailalim na ang nga ito sa total lockdown upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng virus ,” he added.

Data from the city government showed that there are 20 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Barangay 95 and 13 in Barangay 97 as of Saturday afternoon. Malapitan also assured they will distribute food packs to all the residents of the said barangays. There are 2,900 residents in Barangay 95 and 1,800 residents in Barangay 97.

Members of the Caloocan City Health Department will conduct contact tracing during the lockdown period.
