The 1986 snap polls saw Corazon Aquino, widow of senator Benigno Ninoy Aquino Jr. running against President Ferdinand Marcos, with former senator Salvador Laurel as her running mate.
The Commission on Elections declared Marcos the winner of the said polls but the count of the National Citizens Movement for Free Elections showed otherwise.The peaceful EDSA People Power revolt eventually led to the ouster of Marcos with Aquino becoming the first woman President of the Philippines.
