Sixteen people were hurt after the jeepney they were riding in fell 100 meters off a cliff on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the old Zigzag road, Barangay Silangang Malicboy in Pagbilao town.

QUEZON — Quezon Police provincial director Col.Joel Villanueva said the accident occurred around 3 a.m. when the passenger jeepney, carrying 15 passengers, lost its brake after hitting a concrete barrier and fell off the cliff.

The jeep, with plate no. PND 231, was heading downhill on the Old Zigzag road when the accident happened. Based on the initial report, Villanueva said the victims were coming from a wedding in San Jose Camarines Sur and returning to their town in Dasmarinas, Cavite. Rescuers from the local disaster management office, Pagbilao and Barangay police immediately conducted rescue operations.

Villanueva added that those who were rescued were brought to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City including the driver, identified as Ronnel Francia, 28, a resident of Barangay Tagas, San Jose, Camarines Sur who sustained a head injury and bone fracture.
