The 12th Asian Seniors Chess Championships get underway on Sunday, October 15, with Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino, Cavite Vice Governor Athena Bryana Tolentino and Asian Chess Federation Executive Director Casto 'Toti' Abundo gracing the opening ceremony at 10 a.m.

at the Knights Templar Ridge Hotel in Tagaytay City.The three guests of honor are expected to deliver inspirational messages to the participants in this weeklong tournament which ends on Saturday, October 21.Ten countries have so far been represented in the 50 years old and above and the 65 years old and above categories.A guaranteed cash prize of $3,000 awaits the winners.

Leading the foreign cast are Galymzhan Ibrahev, Yelena Gaichenya and Irina Bulonova of Kazakhstan; Helen Milligan of New Zealand; Hamdani Rudin of Indonesia; Ahmad Ismail of Malaysia; Joseph Ebenezer of India; and Badrakh Bat-Erdene of Mongolia in the 50-above category.The favorites in 65-above are Miles Paterson of Australia; Aitkazy Baimurzin, Inna Matveyeva, Tuleurek Demezhanov and Biket Zharokov of Kazakhstan; Pricha Srivatanakul of Thailand; and Kia Mwa Lim of Malaysia.
