Here’s good news from Baguio City: the oldest Filipino to have beaten COVID-19.

A 106-year-old man from Barangay Irisan, Baguio City, has beaten the odds and is now free from COVID-19.

He is the oldest Filipino to have been infected and recovered from the coronavirus, according to the Baguio City Health Office. According to Dr Rowena Galpo, the Baguio City health officer, the centenarian was discharged on Tuesday, October 20, from the Baguio General Hospital. He was admitted 11 days ago and although he exhibited mild symptoms, he was immediately admitted to BGH because of his age, Galpo said.Irisan, the barangay from where the centenarian came from, is one of the villages that remain on selective lockdown because of a cluster of cases in the area.

Part of the reasons why the cases in Baguio are high is the high testing rate, with about 53,000 testings done through RT-PCR.
