Residents of the 10 barangays formerly under Makati City and now part of Taguig City will not be able to vote for a congressman in the coming May 2025 national and local elections, according to the Commission on Elections. Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said affected voters are from barangays Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Northside, and Southside.
“We cannot abolish the second district of Makati, so even if only three barangays remain there, it will still be a district. These three remaining barangays in the second district of Makati City—Guadalupe Viejo, Guadalupe Nuevo, and Pinagkaisahan, will not be abolished,” he added. Comelec also instructed its Election Records and Statistics Department to create a new database of voters for Makati and Taguig.
