MANILA- Some 1,250 workers are stranded in Boracay Island, said Malay town acting Mayor Frolibar Bautista on Thursday.

The local government has already provided food packs to the stranded workers, Bautista said, noting that the employers of some of the workers also sent aid.

"May report kami na mga 1,250 workers stranded, so nagbigay kami ng mga food supplies," he said in a virtual press briefing. The local government banned tourists in Boracay Island in March as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus pandemic. In terms of cash assistance to poor families, Bautista said the local government of Malay is set to finish distribution of the first tranche of emergency subsidies on Thursday.

A total of 1,107 poor families will receive cash aid Thursday out of the 6,922 beneficiaries to complete the distribution, Bautista said.
