) - American Legion Post 199 in Fairhope is holding a sporting clays tournament this weekend to raise money for veterans’ programs. The shoot will be May 8 at Brushy Creek Clays in Perdido .
Organizers said sponsor and team participation have been strong. Of the 88 slots open for shooters, eight have been reserved for veterans who want to participate but can’t afford the $125 entry fee. Fundraising is critical to Post 199’s mission. The support will help provide programs for veterans and help with the cost of the post’s new building.
“One of the really great things about what’s going on here is we have a benefactor who has pledged a large sum of money…50/50,” said John Dwyer, director of development for American Legion Eastern Shore Post 199. “If we can match that number, fifty percent of that number goes to that building and fifty percent goes to our veterans’ missions, which is huge.
