Family remembers Aaron Anderson Jr., a musician and designer killed in a Steelton shooting, and is urging witnesses to come forward
A family is remembering 26-year-old Aaron Anderson Jr. , who was shot and killed in Steelton on March 22 at the Paradise Palace early in the morning.Aaron's sister, Nakeya Anderson , said he was a musician, designer and loving brother, and one of 14 children in the family.
She said he moved to Harrisburg about three years ago and worked to reinvent himself as a performer and rapper.Remembering the morning of the incident'What happened to my brother outside the nightclub in Steelton was senseless and unacceptable,' said Nakeya Anderson, Aaron Anderson Jr.'s eldest sister. Nakeya said she got the news of her brother’s death by phone while she was in Florida. She said Aaron and his younger brother, Isaiah, were shot, and Isaiah recovered.'It was so traumatizing for me,' Nakeya said. 'How can you be there for one brother and still think about the tragedy of the other brother? And, why did it all happen?'A musician, designer, and loving brotherShe said Aaron Anderson Jr. also designed his own clothing brand, learned three languages and kept pushing himself to do better.'I remember us having conversations about him wanting better,' Nakeya said. 'He would tell me he would take a thousand losses, but all that all he needed was just one win.'Nakeya said her brother was the family’s first son and that his death has left a painful void. She said he loved to write and sing, and he was never shy about pursuing music.'He was a son, a brother, friend, a man who mattered deeply to everyone who knew him,' said Nakeya.A family fighting for justiceShe said the family is working with detectives and wants anyone with information to come forward. She said justice means learning the truth and seeing those responsible held accountable in court.'We're just asking for the people that were there, or anyone who knows what happened, or can provide any information as to what happened, to come forward and just do the right thing so that we can find closure in this tragedy,' Nakeya said.Nakeya called out to borough leaders and lawmakers in her search for justice to make safer gun laws and to place tighter restrictions on after-hours nightclubs. In an interview between Steelton Mayor Ciera Dent, who placed four emergency proclamations shuttering four of such clubs in her time as mayor, and WGAL News 8, Dent said she, the police and borough council are working on ways to make Steelton safer.
