Oteta Kristina Kitiona, a 20-year-old soccer player who competed in Samoa's 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign, faces multiple charges for allegedly engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old boy in Utah in 2024. The accusations include sending explicit content and encouraging the minor to share nude images, with the alleged incidents occurring over a six-month period.
A rising star in women's soccer, Oteta Kristina Kitiona , now 20, faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 14-year-old boy in Bluffdale, Utah. According to court documents, Kitiona, who was 19 at the time, is accused of engaging in sexual activities with the teenager multiple times over a six-month period in 2024.
The boy, who was still wearing braces, claims that Kitiona would visit his home two to three times a week between June and October 2024. The alleged encounters reportedly paused briefly when Kitiona left for Bellevue College in Washington state but resumed upon her return a month later.
During this time, Kitiona is said to have sent the boy explicit photos and videos of herself, described as 'head to toe clean, naked,' and encouraged him to send similar images, including while he was in the shower. The charges against Kitiona, which include distributing material harmful to a minor and three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor while under the age of 21, come just two months after she represented Samoa in the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign.
Despite the allegations, Kitiona is not currently in custody and has been issued a summons to appear in court on June 6. The case has sparked discussions about the responsibilities of athletes and the importance of protecting minors in sports. Kitiona's legal team has yet to issue a public statement regarding the charges, but the case is expected to draw significant attention as it progresses through the legal system.
The incident has also raised questions about the oversight and accountability mechanisms within youth sports and the broader implications for athletes accused of such offenses
