Brandon Byrne, 23, was found guilty of murdering 40-year-old Mr. Cook after an argument escalated into violence at the Loose Cannon pub on April 30th of last year.
CCTV footage revealed Byrne chasing Mr. Cook down Stodman Street and fatally stabbing him. The court heard that a physical fight broke out inside the pub after 'something was said,' resulting in Byrne sustaining a facial injury. Driven by anger and a desire for revenge, Byrne pursued Mr. Cook after both were ejected from the premises, ultimately launching a deadly attack.
The horrific incident unfolded as Mr. Cook left the pub with his group, only to be confronted by Byrne wielding a knife. The CCTV footage showed Byrne methodically walking towards Mr. Cook before initiating the chase and subsequent stabbing. He continued the assault even after Mr. Cook fell to the ground, inflicting further injuries. Byrne was apprehended by police at 4:09 am the following morning and initially claimed self-defense, though he admitted to possessing an offensive weapon.
However, the evidence presented at Nottingham Crown Court clearly demonstrated a premeditated act of violence motivated by retribution.
