Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has ordered traditional leaders in the State to as a matter of urgency end illegal mining in their domains within two weeks and bring a report to the State government for necessary action.

In a press statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Comrade Jamilu Illyasu Magaji, the State Government has taken a serious move to end all forms of illegal mining in the State. ” State government is seriously worried over the issue of illegal mining in the state as many people especially the youths are dying due to the illegal mining in the state ” the statement noted.

The statement said the State government is making tireless efforts to see that about 70,000 youths in the State are engaged in proper mining activities, saying that this includes 5,000 youths from each of the 14 local government areas. It further noted the State would in collaboration with the Federal government see how best to tap the abundant mineral deposits that are in the State.
