There was breakdown of law and order in the Ugbuwangue area of Warri as Hausa traders and Itsekiri youths clashed.

A resident told The Guardian there was shooting all through the night, which made many residents flee the area.

The clash was allegedly caused by misunderstanding resulting from collection of levies in the market. A combined team of policemen and soldiers was deployed to the area early yesterday to forestall breakdown of law and order, it was gathered. The Chairman of Warri South Council Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, who intervened in the crisis, said peace had been restored to the community.“As the number one security officer of Warri South Council Area, I want to assure residents that the council is doing all within its power to ensure that permanent peace returns to the community.

“I want to urge residents and traders in Ugbuwangue community to go about their businesses as the council has put all necessary measures in place to forestall a reoccurrence of what happened,” Tidi said.
