Various labour unions in Oyo State, have joined their counterparts across the country to observe the solidarity protest over the alleged recalcitrance of

the federal government to yield to the demand of the Academic Staff Union of Universities , including other sister unions.

Recall that the Nigerian Labour Congress had called on workers across the country to embark on a two-day nationwide protest in view of the ongoing strike embarked upon by ASUU, which had generated much controversy within the Nigerian polity. Some of the unions and associations that are part of the protest include members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities , Nigeria Union of Journalists , Trade Union Congress , Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees , NUPENG, JUSUN, SSANU and NASU.

The protesting workers have commenced the protest at the NLC secretariat and are currently peacefully matching to other streets within Ibadan metropolis. However, there are strong indications that the national leadership of the NLC would stage its own mega rally in Abuja on Wednesday, converging at the Unity Fountain, Abuja as early as 7am.

While it is still perfecting all arrangements for the rally, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lia Mohammed had recently asked Labour to jettison its plans on account of maintaining public peace.
