Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom has said that Nigeria currently ranked 181 out of 193 countries polled in terms women’s participation in politics.

Onnyesoh was speaking during the National Conference on Women’s Participation in Nigeria: Post 2019 General Elections, in a presentation on “Incidences of Violence against Women during the 2019 Elections.

“There are trails of violence against women in the 2019 elections right from the party primaries to campaigns; it is so bad that some women were raped during the elections.Onyesoh said that women, in particular, should play key roles in EVP activities, including the development of early warning and response systems, given their particular vulnerability to gender-based violence.

She said after the 2019 election in Nigeria, only 4.5 per cent women were elected into office, a decline from the 2015 elections, where elected women constituted 5.6 per cent.

Nigerian women prefer to be friends to male politicians, instead of running for office themselves. If the really care about politics, they can collect the money from their male politician friends, and use it to fund female candidates. You don't need another Gucci bag.

Nigeria politic is not ideal one that someone will advise women to participate. The few people among them that participate in politics are more corrupt than men.
