The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, has directed masquerades, irrespective of grades, to observe their rituals from their homes and pray for end to COVID-19 pandemic.

The monarch said in a statement signed by his Personal Assistant and Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Adeola Oloko, in Ibadan at the weekend that the decision not to have long procession this year is not unconnected with the Coronavirus pandemic and the need to observe rules associated with physical distancing.

A building and goods worth N500million were destroyed in the fire that razed Pelly Foam and other shops situated at 1, Lebanon Street, Dugbe Alawo, Ibadan. A day after the incident, Makinde visited the scene of the fire and promised that his administration would launch an emergency fund to address disasters and emergencies. The governor, who described the incident as unfortunate, said his administration would find means, despite the challenges occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, to give palliatives to the victims.

Reacting to the gesture by the governor in a letter of appreciation dated May 27 and received by Governor Makinde on May 28, a copy of which was made available to reporters yesterday, the Chairman/Managing Director of Pelly Foam, Dapo Davies, on behalf of other victims, thanked the government for its magnanimity.
