A Consultant Urologist, Ogah Hospital and Urology Centre, Fugar, Edo State, Dr. Gabriel Ogah said age, pelvic organ prolapse, and enlarged prostate are predisposing factors to urinary incontinence.

Ogah, nevertheless, noted that the most common cause of urinary incontinence is prostate enlargement, particularly in older men. Urinary incontinence, he said, is the inability to control one’s urine as control over the urinary sphincter is either lost or weakened. “When you are not ready to pass it, then you hold it until it’s convenient but when the urine comes out on its own without you being in total control, we will say it’s urinary incontinence.
