What then are the chances of the aspirants without Akeredolu? The race might eventually be between a bureau de change operator, an investment banker, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a former lawmaker.Governor Aiyedatiwa has the power of incumbency. Since he assumed office, many persons have endorsed his continued stay in office beyond February next year. Some analysts said Aiyedatiwa has a 50 per cent chance of winning the APC primary being a sitting governor.
Akinfolarin has recently embarked on a local government tour to woo members of the APC. His chances are bright if his backers in Abuja do not have a change of heart.Senator Ibrahim has touted himself as the most educated among the aspirants. He has a compendium of registered members of the Ondo APC who are in support of his aspiration. His team is spread across the 18 local government areas in the state.
Its director-general, Muyiwa Asagunla, said the purpose was to ensure unity and cohesion of the party after the primary. He added that the group would not canvass support for any aspirant. “We believe that politics and elections in Ondo State substantially dictate the direction of things in the general elections in the country and hence the need to have a formidable and pro-people governor and government come November when the Ondo State governorship election will be held.
“As we birth this group, we will be open and inclusive and conduct consultations with a broad vision. We will consolidate and expand our collective network of partnerships, promote a new type of communal relations, and promote mutual respect and mutual learning between civilizations and development, between the government and the governed.
